HM Consulting and Son is an ethical consultancy firm designed to open up opportunities to engage with cutting-edge, impact-driven research. Our selected team of experts are here to support academics, universities and NGOs bid for and deliver research projects. Our approach is wholly inclusive, with the aim of bringing about positive social and economic change.
HM Consulting and Son was founded 4 years ago, back in 2016. After joining the Higher Education sector back in 2011, Heidi McCafferty, its founder, saw the distinct inequities faced by many of those engaging in research.
Heidi met more and more academics and NGOs with hugely innovative, cutting-edge ideas, who lacked the institutional or organisational capacity, support or finance needed to translate these ideas in a way that ensured they could secure funding. Plus, many others struggling to deliver complex projects in tight time frames.
It was shortly after leaving an NGO that Heidi set up HM Consulting and Son to provide a rapid response service for universities and charities to deliver projects ranging from fundraising to academic research to event planning.
Other projects include managing 3 COVID-19 response series for The Open University, supporting the University of Sussex to bid for funding from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and organising a series of events for Refugee Week in London, Belfast and Milton Keynes.
Researching with mobile populations in the time of lockdown.
Here's an example of one of our recent webinars produced for The Open University by Dr Craig Walker and Heidi McCafferty.

A message from founder, Heidi McCafferty
This company is a proud supporter of the Equal Justice Initiative which confronts racial injustice, advocates for equality, and creates hope for marginalised communities in the USA.
We call out racism and inequality wherever we see it, work hard to amplify black voices and stand in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
Personally, I am studying for my MSc at Birkbeck, University of London, in Criminology: Race, Crime and Justice. I encourage and challenge all those I engage with to actively join the fight for racial equality.
We believe silence is violence.
